Vaughn Bodē

Vaughn Bodē was an underground cartoonist and illustrator known for his character Cheech Wizard and his artwork depicting voluptuous women. In 1963, Bodē self-published Das Kämpf, considered one of the first underground comic books.

From 1968 until his untimely death in 1975 Bodē published War Lizards, about the Vietnam war, Deadbone, (aka Deadbone Erotica and later simply Erotica), Cheech Wizard (in National Lampoon magazine), Sunpot, Purple Pictography with Bernie Wrightson), Junkwaffel, and his graphic novel The Man, about a caveman who accidentally makes important observations about life.

Bodē has a huge following among graffiti artists, with his characters remaining a popular subject to this day. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame for comics artists in 2006.
