Luis Quiles is a Spanish artist who spends much of his time satirizing modern society, especially regarding social media, censorship, capitilism, gender, and politics. Like most satire he’s fairly on-the-nose with his works, preferring the direct approach versus subtle innuendo. When it comes to his take on feminism it’s sometimes difficult to see the message through the gratuitous pinup presentation though it’s possible that actually adds to the point.
Quiles has dealt directly with many of the issues surrounding free expression on commercial platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and DeviantArt where the rules are prudish and applied unevenly. The questions he’s asking are quickly becoming central to a free and open society as these platforms become our new town squares, news, and entertainment rolled into one.
